FIRST considers safety to be a key component of team operation during build season and at FIRST Robotics Competitions. Safety is a solid investment in human capital that brings tangible rewards to those who practice safe work habits. The FIRST Robotics Competition espouses safety as a core value and has established the framework for safety leadership. This includes eye and face protection with ANSI-approved, non-shaded safety glasses with approved side shields, wearing closed-toed shoes, and, when necessary, wearing gloves or using earplugs. This also includes the safe operation of equipment and machinery in the work area.
